We offer a warm and welcoming environment where our pre-schoolers can learn and explore at their own pace, whilst also offering our advice on childcare funding.

What happens before I start preschool?

A safe and secure environment

We believe that as well as fantastic staff, the environment is the third educator. We provide a carefully planned classroom and outdoor area, formulated to the needs of the individual child. We provide open-ended ‘loose’ parts and real-life resources where the children can run with their thoughts and imaginations. When the day comes for them to leave, we strive to provide them with an excellent start on their educational journey with fantastic memories.

Our aspirations

All About Me

Children are supported to develop confidence, independence and emotional security by understanding who they are, expressing their feelings and needs, building positive relationships and making safe choices. Through secure relationships, routines, play and meaningful experiences, they are encouraged to explore, try new things, solve problems, communicate confidently and respect others. By the time they move on to school, the aim is for them to be motivated, resilient learners who can manage some of their feelings and needs, use resources safely and take pride in their achievements.

Community

Children are supported to understand their place within the Robins Nest community and the wider world by building positive relationships, cooperating with others, sharing ideas and respecting different viewpoints. Through everyday routines, group play and real-life experiences, they develop confidence, communication skills, curiosity and an understanding of people, places, cultures and the environment. By the time they move on to school, the aim is for them to feel secure within a group, work well with others, show kindness and respect, make positive choices and begin to understand their role in caring for their community and the world around them.

Challenge

Children are encouraged to become confident, curious and resilient learners by trying new things, taking safe risks and persevering when challenges arise. Through play, movement, creativity, mathematics and problem solving, they develop independence, coordination, communication and critical thinking skills while learning to make choices and work with others. By the time they move on to school, the aim is for them to see themselves as capable learners who are willing to practise, solve problems, think creatively and take pride in overcoming challenges.

Imagination

Children are encouraged to use imagination, creativity and curiosity to explore ideas, express themselves and make sense of the world around them. Through open-ended play, storytelling, role play, music, movement and creative activities, they develop confidence, communication, relationships and problem-solving skills while learning to make choices and respect the ideas of others. By the time they move on to school, the aim is for them to be confident and imaginative learners who can create, collaborate, express their ideas and use their imagination to explore new possibilities.

Communcation

Children are supported to become confident communicators by learning to express their needs, feelings and ideas, listen to others and communicate in ways that suit them. Through songs, stories, books, play, conversation and everyday routines, they develop language, early literacy, social skills and confidence while exploring speech, gesture, Makaton, pictures and other forms of communication. By the time they move on to school, the aim is for them to enjoy communicating, listen and respond to others, express themselves clearly, develop early phonic awareness and confidently interact with adults and other children.
